Taiwan deepens economic cooperation with Texas

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung concluded a visit to the U.S. State of Texas May 10, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As part of implementing President Lai Ching-te’s roadmap to deepen the Taiwan-U.S. economic partnership, Lin met with Houston Mayor John Whitmire May 7 at the city government and exchanged views on a Taiwan Tower investment project, providing a one-stop service for Taiwan investment in Texas and for U.S. investment in Taiwan. Lin invited Whitmire to visit Taiwan for further, detailed discussions on the projects.
Lin visited Texas A&M University and exchanged views on Taiwan-U.S. education cooperation and personnel cultivation with David Staack, deputy vice chancellor for research, the MOFA said.
A Texas State House of Representatives Taiwan-friendly resolution was proposed which supports the Texas State government to reinforce partnership with Taiwan. This was passed and stated that Taiwan is a reliable partner for the U.S. in the fields of biotechnology, circular economy, energy technology, Internet of Things, national defense, smart machinery and semiconductors.
Together with representatives from domestic industry, Lin visited University of Texas at Austin, to gained insight into the U.S. capacity in artificial intelligence and personnel training for the AI industry. Lin anticipated that Taiwan and the U.S. would collaborate further to nurture professionals in the field.
In addition, Lin attended a Taiwan-Texas AI innovative summit, co-organized by the Texas Association of Business, Opportunity Austin, and Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association. Pete Sessions, Texas U.S. House of Representatives member, emphasized that Taiwan is a staunch partner for the U.S. in the AI realm.
The government will continue to expand cooperation with the U.S. under its integrated diplomacy strategy, the ministry concluded.
