2025/08/28

The fourth edition of the Taiwan-Japan Innovation Summit was held Aug. 25 in Tokyo, highlighting the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation between the two sides’ startups.

Organized by the Cabinet-level National Development Council, Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Japan External Trade Organization, the event focused on issues spanning corporate venture capital, deep technology, international cooperation, and mergers and acquisitions. Attendees included NDC Minister Liu Chin-ching; delegates of 45 Taiwan startups in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, financial technology, digital transformation and medical care; and representatives of Japanese businesses and political figures like Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.

Liu elaborated on Taiwan’s strategies to boost startups during the event. The NDC is cooperating with ministries and agencies to invest over NT$10 billion (US$328 million) into AI, the digital and net-zero sectors, and strengthening the business-friendly environment, he said, adding that the council is organizing entrepreneurship competitions, providing training and enhancing access to the global market through its hubs in Tokyo and Silicon Valley.

According to the NDC, the summit has attracted over 100 Taiwan startups since 2022 and successfully connected participants with more than 100 Japanese counterparts and financial institutions, as well as helping enterprises expand business operations and establish branches overseas. The council cited Hsinchu City-based Free Bionics Taiwan Inc. and Taipei City-headquartered Avalanche Computing Taiwan Inc. as examples.

The event plays a key role in promoting Taiwan-Japan industrial ties and exchanges and linking Taiwan startups with the world, the NDC said. The council is committed to advancing two-way innovation and supply chain integration while pursuing mutual prosperity, it added.
