2025/08/28

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said that Taiwan will continue to stand together with global partners to safeguard the cherished shared values of democracy and freedom.

Hsiao made the remarks Aug. 26 in Taipei City while participating in the “United for Taiwan: A Night to Defend Freedom” gala dinner hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, the Presidential Office said, adding that members including U.K. Member of Parliament Iain Duncan Smith and Luke de Pulford, IPAC founder and executive director, were in attendance.

In her remarks, Hsiao expressed her gratitude to the alliance for providing long-term support for Taiwan’s international participation by speaking out against cognitive warfare, gray zone tactics and military intimidation by authoritarian regimes. As a critical link in global supply chains, Taiwan is aware of its responsibility to the international community, she said.

The vice president also took the opportunity to thank the Taiwanese people for working to uphold democratic values and advance IPAC’s goals. She added that the nation’s vibrant democracy is one of the key reasons international partners choose to back Taiwan.

Hsiao emphasized that Taiwan’s democracy was hard-earned and that the people never take freedom for granted, adding that the support of like-minded friends and partners has made Taiwan stronger and more confident.
