news conference Nov. 1 in Gyeongju, South Korea, after the annual event concluded, according to the Presidential Office.
The AELM comprised two leaders’ meetings and a luncheon with representatives from the APEC Business Advisory Council, Lin said. Discussions, held under the theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper,” centered on responding to the profound impact of population change and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.
Lin said he stressed that each economy must strengthen industrial autonomy and economic security while helping enterprises build resilience and fostering a predictable, stable and transparent trade environment. He shared Taiwan’s experience in developing semiconductor supply chains through public-private collaboration involving industry clusters, research teams, tax incentives and talent cultivation.
The envoy also briefed attendees on Taiwan’s application of AI to develop a high-precision weather model that can enhance weather forecast resolution from 25 kilometers to 2 kilometers. Representatives from many member economies expressed interest in the technology, he added.
According to Lin, the delegation fulfilled the three tasks assigned by President Lai: underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to bolstering economic resilience and cooperating with other economies to advance regional trade and development; expressing the country’s willingness to share its pioneering industrial experience to foster public-private partnerships in tackling global challenges; and highlighting Taiwan’s drive to develop human-centered AI as a contribution to APEC’s shared vision.
APEC is an important platform for Taiwan to be seen by the world, Lin said, noting that through the meetings and multiple bilateral dialogues, Taiwan can demonstrate its contributions to global economic systems.
During AELM, the Taiwan delegation held several bilateral meetings, including with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to exchange views on technological cooperation and supply chain security. The envoy also held a dialogue with Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi Oct. 31.
