中美洲經貿辦事處 Central America Trade Office
Nicaragua Tourism Industry International Promotion Event

2010-09-27

To help promote Nicaraguan’s handicraft industry development, since 2009, the Central America Trade Office is sharing with Nicaragua its experience with the industry cultivating One Town, One Character, program, to help Nicaraguan with the local cultural industry development, and then further drive the mutual market development on to the international stage.

In early October this year, the Nicaraguan government is selecting a few representatives that epitomize the local cultural industries to come to Taiwan for observing business and for exchanging culture. These include representatives of the pottery art from San Juan de Oriente, the artisan soapstone (marmolina) sculptures from San Juan de Limay, and the rattan furniture from Masatepe. During their stay in Taiwan, they will attend creative design and unique product development classes, and hands-on workshops at the National Taiwan University of Art and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute; in addition, they will participate in product promotion and practical training classes at the Corporate Synergy Development Center.

After the observation classes, a few Taiwanese experts will go to Nicaragua to conduct counseling classes and transfer the successful Taiwan experiences and techniques to the local industry. We hope that through cultural creative concept and marketing communication, we can enhance Nicaraguan handicraft design and practicality, generate links with Taiwan to promote business opportunities, combine business exhibition platforms, source Taiwanese cultural creative intellects to co-produce export merchandise, and then drive Nicaraguan handicraft products to the international arena.

Mr. Mario Danilo Salinas Pasos, the Nicaraguan Minister of Tourism and Mr. Laureano Ortega Murillo, consultant to the Nicaraguan Ministry of Tourism, will arrive in Taiwan on October 1 to visit related industries and businesses, attend official meetings, and also attend the Nicaragua Tourism and Cultural Crafts Industries International Exchange Activities, organized by our office, at the Hotel Royal Taipei, at noon on October 4.

Invitations are extended to the executives at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the related business and industry associations in Taiwan to participate in the discussion of tourism, international development of the cultural creative industry, and business cooperation opportunities between Taiwan and Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan tourism consultant will be sharing important topics such as:  the planning of a transoceanic canal travel route; the construction of Caribbean style luxury recreational ports; the development of medical, spa tourism; and he will also be searching for future tourism investment cooperation possibilities. The activities will also include a display area for handicrafts from various Nicaraguan towns. Through personal interpretation, Nicaraguan artisans will be communicating creative ideas and international marketing concepts with related business participants.
