2022/03/09

Edwin Laurent, outgoing ambassador of St. Lucia, was awarded the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon March 7 in recognition of his extensive efforts in strengthening relations between the ROC (Taiwan) and its ally in the Caribbean.

Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, who presented the state honor on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, praised Laurent for tirelessly promoting bilateral friendship throughout the years. His contributions spanning a wide spectrum of exchange and cooperation have enhanced people-to-people friendship and understanding between the two sides, he said.

In response, Laurent expressed gratitude to Taiwan for the assistance and friendship extended to him during his tenure. The state honor reflects the strong bond between the two sides, he added.

Taiwan and St. Lucia enjoy a solid relationship based on the shared values of democracy, freedom and human rights, Laurent said, adding that he believes it will strengthen further through joint response to challenges posed by issues such as climate change, global security, and international trade.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Minister Wu presented Edwin Laurent the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon for his contributions to advancing #Taiwan-#StLucia ties. We thank the outgoing ambassador of our country’s #Caribbean ally for nearly 4 years of effort, & wish him a bright & prosperous future.”
