US House of Representatives delegation touches down in Taiwan

The first Taiwan-France high-level economic and trade dialogue was staged March 26 in the EU member state, underscoring the two sides’ commitment to deepening industrial supply chain cooperation.
 
Attended by Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua, the event touched on areas spanning aerospace, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, renewable energy and semiconductors.
 
During the dialogue, Wang said Taiwan has extensive expertise in manufacturing electric vehicle components, citing a new solid-state battery plant set to be established by Taoyuan City-based ProLogium Technology Co. in France. As for the aerospace sector, the two partners can further deepen collaboration on the strength of Taiwan’s satellite ground equipment and France’s robust space industry, she added.
 
The minister urged more joint research and development projects on industrial AI applications, adding that there is also high cooperation potential in sixth-generation technology, information and communications technology and net-zero transformation under the France 2030 program.
 
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Wang will visit French associations and businesses including Plateforme automobile and Eutelsat Group during her trip. The MOEA is also scheduled to hold a roundtable on Taiwan’s industrial policies and an offshore wind power seminar to bring French counterparts up to date on the country’s relevant advancements, it added.
 
Official statistics show that two-way trade totaled US$6.09 billion in 2023, a record high since 1998, the MOEA said. Taiwan’s investment in France reached US$720 million last year, while French investment in Taiwan amounted to US$230 million, both hitting new all-time highs, the ministry added.
