MOFA thanks US president for signing NDAA 2024

2023/12/27

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 signed into law Dec. 22 by U.S. President Biden is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Passed by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives earlier this month, the legislation incorporates provisions that the U.S. will assist in defense training, advice, and capacity-building programs for Taiwan. Defense cybersecurity cooperation will also be strengthened between the two sides.

According to the MOFA, the act demonstrates the importance the U.S. Congress attaches to bilateral security ties. The ministry expressed gratitude to Congress for its continued work in legislating to enhance the country’s defense resilience.

Based on national development policies, the Taiwan government will continue to work with U.S. administrative and legislative branches to ensure smooth implementation of the measures, the MOFA said. It added that as a responsible regional member, Taiwan will deepen partnership with the U.S. and jointly safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the Indo-Pacific.
