The announcement of a donation of US$150,000 from the Czech Republic to Taiwan is sincerely appreciated, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 30.

The money will fund reconstruction work in the eastern county of Hualien, where a major temblor occurred April 3, the MOFA said, adding that the donation followed condolences from Prime Minister Petr Fiala and the leadership of the Czech Parliament after the incident.

According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Czechia are like-minded partners who collaborate to contribute to the international community. The Central European country stands firmly with Taiwan whenever the nation is faced with challenges, the ministry added.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan donated 1.35 million masks to Czechia, along with other medical supplies, while Czechia in turn contributed 30,000 doses of a vaccine to Taiwan. This most recent monetary aid only emphasizes the value Czechia places on the friendly bond between the two sides, the ministry said.

Based on the robust ties between the two partners, the MOFA said, Taiwan will continue to deepen exchanges with Czechia and advance the relationship through mutually beneficial cooperation.
