Cooperation produces eventful March for Francophones

The National Museum of Taiwan Literature, French Office in Taipei and Alliance Francaise have collaborated to host cultural events in March for Taiwan French Language Month.

According to the Ministry of Culture, French illustrator Florent Chavouet shared the inspiration he has taken from the streets of Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Thailand with a rapt audience March 2 at Taipei City-based Taiwan Literature Base, where he is currently a resident artist. He will speak on the same topic later this month in the southern city of Tainan at the NMTL.

The ministry also announced that renowned French novelist Olivia Rosenthal, whose works have been translated into English, German, Korean and Hungarian, will read from her award-winning work “We’re Not Here To Disappear” March 23 at TLB. She will be accompanied by an actor from Taiwan as they read passages in French and Mandarin that evoke the moods of an Alzheimer patient, his family members and doctors, the MOC added.

At the end of the month, the ministry said that Haiti’s ambassador, Roudy Stanley Penn, will present an introduction to the political history of his French-speaking country Mar. 31 in TLB. In addition to his diplomatic responsibilities, the ambassador is an author who has published books on public policy and democratic systems.

Events will be bilingual in Mandarin and French, the MOC said, adding that opportunities to engage with the French language would continue into April and beyond, even after Taiwan French Language Month ends.
