2024/03/05

The arrival of a cross-party parliamentary delegation from Estonia March 4 is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The group is led by Kristo Enn Vaga, chair of the Estonian parliament’s Taiwan friendship group. During their five-day stay, members of the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Chen Chien-jen, as well as attend banquets hosted by Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu and Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, the MOFA said.

They will also call on the Ministries of Digital and Economic Affairs, Health and Welfare and National Defense, as well as the Cabinet level-National Science and Technology Council and Hsinchu Science Park, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, Vaga is a staunch Taiwan supporter, who has often spoken in public and released social media posts backing Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations. He has delivered military and humanitarian relief to Ukraine in person many times, which demonstrates his determined stance against authoritarian expansion, the ministry said.

Taiwan and Estonia share values of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, the MOFA said, adding that the like-minded partners have potential cooperation in areas spanning economy, technology and trade, and the current visit will further deepen bilateral exchanges and partnerships.
